MARQUETTE, Mich. — We have released our first audio advertisement this morning. Here’s the long version featuring a personal narrative about my 30-year-long love of the city, and why we call this campaign ‘For the Love of Marquette.’ Enjoy!
Marquette has been my home for three decades. My work-desk at NMU is stationed in the very spot I sat during student council in the 5th grade. My first college course was in my former kindergarten classroom.
As kids, we played in creeks on the West side, pond hockey on the East. We trick-o-treated in Shiras Hills. I had my first kiss on the Big Bay Rd.
But, the greatest love of my life has been the city itself. I love Marquette because when I’m standing on the shoreline of Lake Superior, it makes me feel like I’m on the edge of the world.
I get the same feeling every day during this campaign – the opportunity that our beloved city is on the precipice of a new definition of leadership, one defined by community and its people.
Marquette has given me so much. It’s cultivated my passions. I’m ready to channel those on commission to ensure future generations grow up falling in love with the same neighborhoods I did 30 years ago.
I’m Andrew Lorinser. I am compelled to lead. I am eager to serve. I’m running for Marquette City Commission. For the love of Marquette, on August 6, I would be honored to have your vote.
